Our introductory ASL course equips learners with essential skills such as fingerspelling, basic vocabulary, and an understanding of grammar and syntax. Delve into the rich history and vibrant culture of the Deaf community, making your journey not just about language, but also a deep appreciation of its unique aspects. Join us in fostering communication and connection! Here's a more detailed breakdown of what the beginner's ASL course covers: -Fingerspelling: Learning the manual alphabet for spelling out words letter by letter. -Foundational Vocabulary: Acquiring a foundational vocabulary of signs for everyday communication. -Grammar and Syntax: Understanding the unique structure and rules of ASL grammar, which differs from spoken English. -Receptive and Expressive Skills: Developing the ability to understand (receptive) and produce (expressive) ASL signs and sentences. -Conversational Skills: Practicing basic conversational interactions using vocabulary and grammar. -Deaf Culture: Learning about the history, culture, and social aspects of the Deaf community. -Non-Manual Features: Understanding the role of facial expressions, body language, and other non-manual signals in ASL. -Visual Readiness: Developing the visual skills necessary for successful communication in ASL. This class is designed for individuals with little to no previous knowledge of American Sign Language.
